Default channel per inbox

Currently, each teammate can configure their default channel, and this will apply to every inbox. However, teammates may need the default channel to change depending on which inbox the conversation belongs to or is currently being viewed. We can solve this need by allowing a default channel to be selected for each inbox.

Open questions:

  • Does this remain as a user preference for each teammate to select per inbox, or do we allow admins to define the default channel for each inbox?

  • If the latter, does it replace or overwrite the existing user preference?

    This would be super helpful. Our team manages several shared inboxes all that have different email address attached. Rather than having to manually select the reply to email address, it would be nice if you could set a default inbox from address per shared inbox.

    This functionality would be a great addition to the individual user-level default preferences already in place and address our current business need. Our support agents work in multiple inboxes across workspaces and this would help streamline conversations and cause less confusion for the support teams.

    For example, we're in the process of updating several support emails from 'help@brand.com' to 'care@brand.com'. We would like all replies to existing emails received at 'help@brand.com' to be sent from the new 'care@brand.com' address by default.

    I agree this would be very helpful! We just brought in a team into a separate workspace where there is some crossover for them. It would be a great feature to be able to set a default based on workspace at a minimum, but inbox would be better.

    That would be a great feature for us as well, as we manage different projects in different workspaces and sometimes our team members need to reply from a different channel depending on the workspace they write from. This shouldn't be too hard to code, I am sure the super Front Dev Team could do it :)

    Yes, we would find this extremely helpful. It would be even better if we could default certain users to have a default channel per team inbox, without affecting other teammates in the team inbox we don't designate.
